Cost Optimization Recommendations
The Recommendations view is accessible from the How Can I Save? section on the Dashboard. It shows all active cost optimization opportunities identified by AWS Cost Optimization Hub across your connected accounts.
Viewing Recommendations
Navigate to the Dashboard and scroll to How Can I Save?. Recommendations are displayed as cards, grouped by optimization category.
Each card shows:
- Category — e.g., Rightsizing, Idle Resources, Commitments, Storage
- Description — A brief explanation of the opportunity
- Estimated monthly savings — Projected cost reduction per month
- Estimated annual savings — Monthly savings × 12
- Implementation effort — Low, Medium, or High
Viewing Resource-Level Detail
Each recommendation card covers one or more specific AWS resources. Click View Details on a card to expand the resource list.
Each resource row includes:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Resource ID | AWS resource identifier (e.g., i-0abc12345) |
| Account | AWS account ID where the resource lives |
| Region | AWS region |
| Current configuration | What the resource is configured as today |
| Recommended configuration | The suggested change |
| Estimated savings | Per-resource monthly savings estimate |
Ignoring Recommendations
Some recommendations may not apply to your situation — for example, a database intentionally over-provisioned for peak load. You can dismiss individual resource recommendations to keep the list focused on actionable items.
Ignore for 90 Days
Hides the recommendation temporarily. It will automatically reappear after 90 days so you can reassess.
- Expand the recommendation card to view resource-level detail
- Click the Ignore button on the resource row
- Select Ignore for 90 days
Ignore Permanently
Removes the recommendation from the list indefinitely. Use this for resources that will never be eligible for the suggested change.
- Expand the recommendation card to view resource-level detail
- Click the Ignore button on the resource row
- Select Ignore permanently
Managing Ignored Recommendations
To review or restore ignored recommendations:
- On the Dashboard How Can I Save? section, click View Ignored
- The Ignored Recommendations view lists all dismissed items with:
- The original recommendation
- Why it was ignored (temporary or permanent)
- Expiry date (for 90-day ignores)
- To restore a recommendation, click Restore — it will reappear in the active recommendations list
Acting on Recommendations
SkySaver surfaces recommendations but does not automatically apply them. To act on a recommendation:
| Recommendation Type | How to Act |
|---|---|
| Rightsizing (EC2) | Create a resource schedule to stop/start the instance, or manually resize in AWS Console |
| Rightsizing (RDS) | Use a resource schedule to scale RDS instance class during low-usage windows |
| Savings Plans / Reserved Instances | Purchase directly in the AWS Billing Console |
| Storage optimization | Enable S3 Intelligent Tiering automation or manage via AWS Console |
Recommendations Freshness
Recommendations are updated based on Cost Optimization Hub data, which has a 24–48 hour lag from AWS. New recommendations will appear after:
- Enough usage data has been collected (typically a few days after first enabling Cost Explorer)
- Your usage patterns change significantly
